PHARMACY SECTION
The Pharmacy Department of East Avenue Medical Center (EAMC) stands as a pillar of healthcare excellence, integrating pharmaceutical expertise with compassionate patient care. Since its establishment, the Pharmacy Department has been providing high-quality patient services to patient over the decades. Over the years, the department has undergone significant changes and improvements to keep up with the advancements in the field of Pharmacy. In the early days, the department was staffed by only a handful of Pharmacists who were responsible for dispensing medications to patients. However, as the demand for Pharmacy services grew, the department expanded its practice from its traditional drug-focused services to a more patient-focused approach. Today, the Pharmacy Department of East Avenue Medical Center is a full-service department that provides a wide range of Pharmacy services to patients. Besides the conventional practice of dispensing, the department provides clinical services, such as antimicrobial stewardship, drug information services, clinical pharmacy interventions, unit dose drug distribution, and other services that need a pharmacist’s expertise or technical knowledge. These services help prevent adverse events, reduce medication errors, and improve patient safety. The Pharmacy Department is committed to providing high-quality Pharmacy services, making it a leading government institution in the field of Pharmacy.
FUNCTIONS AND SERVICES
Ensures the provision of the following services:
- Dispensing – refers to the sum of processes performed by a pharmacist from reading, validating, and interpreting prescriptions; preparing; packaging; labeling; record keeping; dose calculations; and counseling or giving information, in relation to the sale, or transfer of pharmaceutical products, with or without a prescription of medication order. - Clinical pharmacy service – refers to any patient care provided by a pharmacist through pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic strategies that promote the appropriate selection and utilization of medication to optimize individual therapeutic outcomes, prevent diseases or achieve wellness.
- Unit Dose Drug Distribution System – refers to the method of dispensing and controlling medications where 24-hour medications are contained in single-unit packages and are delivered to or available at the patient-care area anytime.
- Ensures compliance with regulatory requirements of the pharmacy
- Conducts activities such as pharmaceutical cost planning, budgeting, procurement, inventory, and storage management
- Prepares reports and maintains records relevant to the Pharmacy Department
- Ensures training of new personnel and the required continuing professional development for staff as indicated in RA 10192.
- Formulates and implements training activities for pharmacy interns
- Provides opportunities for research in all aspects of pharmacy, including those involving pharmaceutical products and healthcare.
